I had the priveledge to pray for a young couple today - expecting to adopt any day! This is only one reminder of why I do what I do - to see God working in someone's life.
Brian and Kelly have been serving in First Impressions for awhile - they are a very quiet couple. Yet over the past year, they have been a constant on one of our Saturday teams. Always there, always smiling, always encouraging. I really got to know them better when they decided to look into taking a leadership role in First Impressions. Oh yeah, that's the other best part of my job - hearing peoples' stories of how Christ impacted their lives and then seeing them share their faith as they love on their teams.
It seemed that every time Brian and Kelly's team was serving, Kelly would find an opportunity to pray with someone; mostly a complete stranger. She shared how nervous she was to pray but she obeyed and prayed anyway.
Today, Kelly stood in our office with the latest update on their adoption. She was leaving to get on a plane to fly to Arizona and Brian would follow the next day. They have all the papers completed and have been praying like crazy. Now it's up to God to finish what He has in store for them.
There are many things that can still go awry - and there are still "papers" that still might prevent them bringing home their baby. I could see Kelly's faith in her face; sprinkle in a bit of anxious excitement. As she talked about how they have been praying - there I stood and was hit with "hey - YOU, Mary Ann, could pray for them." As they have been faithful in the past whenever anyone stood in front of them....I was able to return the favor.
So I grabbed Leslee (I love to include Leslee in ALL things First Impressions and GOD!) and together we prayed:
for Kelly's safety and ease as she travels,
for God's protection for the birth Mom and this precious child that God has already seen,
for their safe return -all three of them!!
I look forward to holding this child that God has specifically chosed Kelly and Brian to parent and for the rest of us, as part of their family, to love.
I am grateful that God reminded me - once again - that going to Him remindes me just how involved He is in every detail of our lives!
