They said "Yes!" to volunteering...now what?

While we will never have 100% of our volunteer slots filled - or hey - we wouldn't need to rely on God getting us through those lean services, we keep praying for MORE. Then it happens, someone actually says "YES!"

Yes to serving - even though it may cost them some time or being uncomfortable or worried if they will "fit in". They may wonder if this is thing that will help them discover what it means to - "serve where you are gifted". I mean - how many of us really know what that means if you have nevered served before? I know I didn't.

What amazes me is that sometimes we hear the "Yes!" and then when nothing happens after that.

A simple email or a handshake saying - "Welcome to the team!" can go miles!!! It says that someone has actually noticed them as being counted on and is truly happy about it.

Or just taking the time to activey look for them when they come through the doors the first time speaks volumes. We can forget that while we are "serving together" and know it can be a blast and a priveledge; the new person walking in is like the new kid in school. Everyone else seems to know the ropes and each other - let's remember to include and invite the newest volunteers to be included.

I guess it just boils down to simple hospitality and manners. In our fast paced world of hurry-hurry, taking the time to genuinely welcome those serving can be the difference between:
"What did I sign up for? They don't need or want me....really."

To..."Wow! I'm so glad I said yes - these people want me here".

The Volunteers want to be reassured that they made the right decision to serve - we, as leaders and volunteers, need to show them they did!
